Getting Started


Welcome!

This course is delivered via Teachable.com, an online learning platform. We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers. After you create your account, you should be able to access the course easily from any device with a web browsers using your sign-in credentials.

  • This course is organized into tutorial sessions covering fundamental areas of soil health for specialty crops. You can work through the sessions using the “Previous” and “Continue" buttons.
  • Some lessons may include short surveys, exercises, quizzes, downloads, or homework.
  • At the end of each lesson we have added a section with References and Sources where you can further explore the lesson topic.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge to improve soil quality and plant growth and yield. The key concepts you will learn are:

  • Assess soil health effectively.
  • Understand the components of soil, such as organic matter, nutrients, and microbial activity.
  • Interpret soil tests and observe soil characteristics.
  • Apply soil management practices, such as cover cropping, crop rotation, and conservation tillage.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and address common soil fertility issues such as nutrient deficiencies, pH imbalances, compaction, or erosion.
  • Make informed soil management decisions.
